Site back up…..
Good news: the new membership system installation has gone quite smoothly, thanks mainly to the excellent support from the developers.
It is functioning now, but there are many tweaks I want to apply. No doubt there will be some niggles and some problems, so please contact me via the site HELP>CONTACT ME (or even on here, although FaceBook and me don’t get on all that well).
Remember, your existing Username and Password should have transferred over, and will continue to function as before, until your current subscription expires.
Every membership has been migrated to the new system, retaining Username and Password. Choose LOGIN on the main menu bar and you will be able to do just that. If the system doesn’t recognise you, try the Lost your Password? link. If that doesn’t work, you know where I am….
There is a REGISTRATION button on the menu with a page ABOUT REGISTRATION which will explain how the new system works.
Once logged in there is no change from how it was working yesterday.

JohnF

Site down for maintenance tomorrow
Just a reminder that the site will down for maintenance from 0600 GMT tomorrow. I am actually installing a new membership system. Little will change for individuals and free memberships, but there will be quite a difference for groups and choirs, which my existing membership system was never designed to handle.
I’ll post on here when the site is back up again. I really have no idea how long it is going to take. It depends on what problems I encounter on the journey.
Initially every membership will be migrated to the new system, retaining Username and Password. Choose LOGIN on the main menu bar and you will be able to do just that. If the system doesn’t recognise you, try the Lost your Password? link. It that doesn’t work, you know where I am….
There will be a REGISTRATION button on the menu with a page ABOUT REGISTRATION which will explain how the new system works.
Once logged in there will be no change from how it is working now.

Notice of downtime: Friday 31 March and Saturday 1 April, 2017
The membership plugin that I use on this site has served very well, but it is throwing up a few niggling problems. Also, it is not designed to handle choir memberships.
So, I have decided to upgrade the site to a much more robust system. This means that I will need to close the site down during the transition.
I will prepare as much as I can beforehand, but will close the site down at 0600GMT on Saturday 8 April. It is difficult to estimate how long it will take me: I need to convert all the membership records from the existing system to the new one.
The main change will be how Choir membership is handled. Rather than the present system where one Username/Password combination is used by all members of the choir, the new system will allow all choir members to have their own Username/Password under the umbrella of the choir membership.
Choir Contacts will need to provide choir members’ details: First Name, Last Name, Email address. Choir contacts will be able to add these details themselves, or send them to me in .csv or Excel format.
Existing paid-for choir memberships will continue to run as they do now until the next renewal date, so there’s no rush for this information.
As I don’t have access to passwords, when the new system is in place every member will need to go to the login page and click on the Forgotten Password link. This will just need your email address. You will receive an auto-generated password, which you use to login. You can then change the password back to what you used before.

New price structure for choir membership
I have introduced a new scale of charges for choir membership.
I am particularly pleased that so many choirs are using the site, but this use does have a knock-on effect on the speed of page loads and downloading of files. Consequently I am continually reviewing the server speeds provided by my hosts, and occasionally upgrading my hosting plan.
I thought it would be fairer for all to spread the costs more evenly, so have decided to charge more for larger choirs. It is a large rise in prices for larger choirs, but in all cases the costs work out to be less than £3.00 per choir member for a whole year’s membership. I trust that people will agree that it is still good value compared to £10.00 for an individual membership.
The price rises only come into effect for existing choirs at their next renewal.
Cheers,
JohnF
